The other day I mentioned how I always try to teach students how to see the beauty in even the most dull or ugly subject and here’s a wonderful example. These guys have done a whole book about it! Most people might not find these ruins noteworthy but thank god they’ve been immportalized with this project.

It’s been a bit quiet here lately as I’m laying low with a bit of a stomach flu, I’ll spare you further details! But it always helps to look at pretty things right? So here Dan Mounford, he does lots of digital collages but he also does quite impressive double exposures in the camera.

I discovered Jonathan Budenz (aka Jobudenz) last year and quickly fell totally in love with his sleek photo collages. That’s why I really wish I was in Paris this very minute to see his exhibition at the Galerie Gabriel & Gabriel. So I hope that some of you out there might be able to go and enjoy it for me.
Go have a look at his website to see what you’re missing:

I’m not a big cheese fan, but I am a fan of calligraphy and handlettering. That’s why I was really happy to find these ads for Wisconsin Cheese by Shine (the lettering was done by Holly Dickens). They’re quite classic but really well-executed so even if the cheese is smelly I like it!

I am always trying to teach my students how to make something beautiful from things that aren’t necessarily attractive. That’s why I was so happy when I came across design grad Tracy Ma from Canada. She made these wonderful tapestries with patterns made of things she remember from her childhood in Hong Kong. I just love these pieces, they’re the essence of Hong Kong, my home away from home.

If you have kids and want to do the classic height measuring on the wall why not do it on one of these fab oversized rulers from Studio 1 a.m.? It might as well look good in the process. Even if I don’t have kids I think I’d like them hanging on my wall.

Here’s a wonderful little visual identity by Hungarian designer David Barath. He was briefed to do a modern identity with influences from Hungarian folk art and I just love the result which spot on the brief and original too.
