Check out US agency Duffy & Partners. I have lately started trendsearching and I have come to the conclusion that the style of US agencies like Mucca and Louise Fili is the way forward at the mo. I think the financial crisis is instilling a need for authenticity and storytelling and that’s what we’re getting. Here’s an example from Duffy that I think fits perfectly.

Have a look at New York based photographer Sarah Wilmer. I really love her work which is always a fantastic play with colour and light. A lot of her work is also an adventurous flirt with the surreal.

It’s been so quiet here lately do to busy exams. But now I’m back with a bit of kinky stuff. Check out these naughty display letters from Airside designer Malika Favre. She did the Alphabunnies first but when Wallpaper did their July issue on sex they hired her to redo the Alphabunnies with a bit more “umpf”. The outcome were beautiful pinup girl letters. Uh la la!

See all the beautiful letters at Airside.

You needn’t read anything into the fact that today’s blogentry is about wedding invites other than I admire the craft and quality of this work. Check out Mika 78 a small New York letterpress founded by Mimi Woo, a girl with a knack for both weddings and design. I love the warmth and sensuous feel of these pieces.

A little bit more from the beauty industry today. Whenever I’m in London I spend obscene amounts of money in Boots. They have the nicest products (I recommend the coconut shampoo!). Check out this new series of products designed by London-based Camilla Lilliesköld. I love the warm retro style.

Checks!

It sure seams like checks are in this summer. Tommy Hilfiger launches a new summer scent each year with packagaing design varrying over the theme of gradient coloured bottle in summer colours. This year however they’ve gone an entirely different route. I wonder if they’ve been throwing curses at Burberry’s newest scent, The Beat, in their board meetings too.

Mads Jakob Poulsen

Sorry it’s been such a busy week with exams that I haven’t had much time to post. But here’s a bone!

I’ve “bumped” into Danish designer Mads Jakob Poulsen on several occasions, digitally that is! I first noticed his work when I saw his packagaing design for Widex which made it to the D&AD selection. When I looked into his work I was really impressed with a newspaper design he did for Study Abroad. I think it shows really original use of the media.

Ud & Se

Editorial design is my fave of all graphic design diciplines. Sadly we don’t have a lot of guts in that department in Denmark. Most magazines use the same dull layout and typography whether it’s a article about fashion or mental illness. We should look at how they do it in the States where storytelling is key. The only great magazine we have in Denmark is ironically a free one, Ud & Se, which is the Danish Rails’ magazine for reading on their trains. I’m pretty sure it started as a distraction from the fact the trains ran less than perfect, but it certainly became a good distraction. With a convincing use of photos and illustration, and a good pinch of storytelling Ud & Se has even found it’s way to the good company of other great work at the SPD awards, in my recollection as the only Danish work, EVER! They even run a kids section at the back of the magazine which is just as well designed.
