Annie Leibovitz

Spent some much needed time on the couch last night and enjoyed a documentary about Annie Leibovitz on the tele. That woman amazes me, in about 10 minutes she can do a STUNNING photo and be done with it. In my early teens I wanted to be a photographer and I was given a book with her photos, I was so discouraged when what I snapped with my own camera didn’t look like hers so I became a graphic designer instead ;-) But has been a fan ever since. Here’s a bunch of her more recent Vanity Fair style shots.

I love her earlier work, but lately I don’t so much. An army of assistants sets up these big, unrealistic scenes and then makeup people and costume people do their bit and yes, she comes in and snaps a shot, but then the Photoshop people turn it into a fairytale shot… Dunno, I just see pompous in her work lately, not talent. Her early stuff, though, that just knocks my socks off.
