MYMO

Check out Berlin based artist and illustrator MYMO (short for my monsters world). I love the name in regards to her art cause it really is a monsters’ world. It’s quite dark and strange but the crazy characters and the lively splashes of colour here and there gives everything a quirky atmos.

How to make counting calories look attractive? Right this way! Have a look at this little project, a collaboration between Christina Winkless, Anna Brooks and David Rosser. I would love to see this site built out even further with loads more stuff to look through and loads more clever infographics.

Go check it out: http://www.fatorfiction.info

Coming across Stacie Baek was such a treat for me because I’ve been wanting to weave something for SUCH a long time. I attempted to build a loom for my exhibit but failed miserably. I think I have to give it another go. Just look at these beauties! WOW!

Penguin – Great Food

Have you seen the Great Food series from Penguin? I love it, makes me feel so nostalgic. It’s kinda like rummaging through your grandmother’s secret recipe books or looking at vintage cookbooks on holiday somewhere warm and lovely. These are my fave ones. See the entire series here.

Ian Stevenson

Ohh friday has come and I for one am looking forward to the weekend. I think I need a bit of a laugh so I’m gonna give you one of my long time faves that I have never actually blogged before. The reason is that whenever I look at his work I always think ‘WTF?!’ (pardon the French!) because it’s really shit (again, pardon the French!) but that makes it soooooooo good. It is way beyond illustration and art, it’s the attitude that totally cracks me up. And I would kiss whoever’s smelly feet to get that sofa piece, although preferably Mr. Stevenson’s obviously. Enough of the crazy talk…but it’s friday after all!

Hope you like it as much as me!

Genath by François Rappo

There’s something about the italics from François Rappo’s font Genath that is really attracting. Some of the characters are super weird, like the leaning M. But it just seems to add to this kind of quirky elegance in the display italic in particular which has great contrast between thick and thin. It looks so great on the book jackets too all sleek and minimal.

Sofie Bird Møller

Another female Danish talent today. Have a peek at Sofie Bird Møller’s work. She does a lot of different stuff but I’m really into her collages and acrylics. She pastes thick layers of acrylic paint onto ads and pages from magazines and I think the effect is amazing. Almost like the page is in movement.

Was totally blown away when I saw this series of posters by Chinese designer More Tong. I think they are so dramatic and contrastful and I really admire the skills behind drawing these characters. They just seam so much more complicated than our silly little alphabet don’t they? Fab work!

I do love when I come across talented people from Denmark whom I didn’t know cause it means that there are just SO many talented people out there to discover, even in my own country! One of these discoveries is Anne Sofie Madsen. If you’re a fashion addicts you know her work from that field but she is also an AMAZINGLY skilled illustrator. I just love how her work is so raw and a little gloomy but at the same time super pretty and elegant. A new fave!

Ohh how I just LOVE to see work like this. This is the stuff that I wish I saw much more of from my students, experimenting and getting their hands dirty. Unexpected great stuff always seam to happen when you go out on a limb. It’s made by pouring various coloured liquids over a transparent lasercut sheet of plexiglass. It looks amazing! Now don’t just sit there, go get your hands dirty! You have a whole weekend in front of you to do it! ;-)
