Look at this amazing little character film by Argentinian 2Viente. I never get tired of design from South America because it’s so vibrant and colourful, the COMPLETE opposite of Danish design. No offense to Danish designers, I love the style from here too, but Denmark can be a little grey (just look out the window) so I think we need some colourful inspiration. This puts a huge smile on my face!

TV intros

These weeks I’m teaching a course on the design around a TV series. It’s a very hush hush top secret project so I can’t tell you what it is but I CAN show you a list of my top 10 TV intros. I have a deep knowledge in this field due to extensive research (…that’s a nice way of saying I’m a TV-addict ;-)

No. 10: House MD

Being a huge Massive Attack AND Hugh Laurie fan I still love this intro. But it’s also just so well composed timing wise, with all the old medical drawings and the blood running through the veins. Made by Digital Kitchen.

No. 9: Mad Men

A great take on the 50ies inspiration with awesome compositions running through. Made by Imaginary Forces.

No. 8: Borgen

A show from Danish TV. Good work by Danish studio Benny Box.

No. 7: True Blood.

One of the best crafted intros of all time when it comes to the clipping and timing. Everything is choreographed to lead your eyes around to see the exact right thing. Made by Digital Kitchen.

No. 6: The Americans

A super example of a certain style intro. Love the fast pace and the typography with inspiration from old documents. Made by Elastic.

No. 5: House of Cards

The sound! Can listen to it over and over and over. The symbolism of going through a day and the darkness creeping up on you is so magnificent for the show. Made by District 7 Media.

No. 4: Six Feet Under

For me, this intro started a new era in opening titles. It really defined the TV series as a media for great design and Digital Kitchen nailed it on this one.

No. 3: Dexter

Another great Digital Kitchen intro, the crop on each frame is amazing to give the whole intro a macabre look without actually being so.

No. 2: Masters of Sex

This intro always puts a smile on my face. I love how they’ve visualised every slang and every metaphor for sex. Like “buttering the muffin” and so forth. It fits the quite innocent approach to sex that the show has. Made by Elastic.

No. 1: True Detective

The first time I saw this intro I rewinded it to see it again before I actually started to watch the episode. THAT must be the characteristic of a truely great intro. Made by Elastic.

I’m afraid this is another post with nudity, but it really is PURELY from a design point of view, no honestly! :-D I was recently shown this video for the band The Naked and the Famous and I just had to find out who did it. And it’s these guys! They sure know how to create aesthetic little worlds and every piece they have done is stunning. Watch the whole video, it really gets more and more beautiful! I like the song too but I think it’s VERY inspired by Radiohead (Everything in it’s right place) who is my fave band in the world!

I’ve blogged House Industries loads of times and I’m just a huge fan. Didn’t think my esteem for them could get any higher until I saw this new(ish) video on their website. I can’t believe the steady hand these guys have, the curves are bloody perfect by hand!!!! I hate them a little bit now too ;-)

I’ve had the pleasure of the company of Esben from Benny Box a few times as an external lecturer and FINALLY the boys have updated their website so now I really must share it. If you’re Danish you’ve most likely already enjoyed their work for the intro sequence of “Borgen” – great work! – but they’ve also done lots of other great stuff. You guys rock!!

If I said ‘choreographed musicvideo’ did you say OK GO? Well, you should, cause they sure are masters of this dicipline. It started with treadmills, moved along with dominos and paintsplashes and now some serious dog trainining has been taking place. Just watch the video below, it will put a smile on your possibly pre-caffeinated face this morning. Watch out for the naughty goat towards the end, super funny!

Adidas

It probably comes as no great surprise that I am a woman who like, no LOVE shoes. So when I brought home a pair of Adidas Originals Nizza in yellow from Japan I was a happy camper even after being humiliated in the shop due to hysterical laughter from sales person after seing the size of my feet (yes I DO know they are mens’ shoes, yes I DO have big feet and yes you probably COULD fit a small Japanese family into one of my shoes). That’s why I love this animation for Adidas Originals that Frame and Sid Lee Amsterdam did, Eduardo, did you throw some of your magic dust on this one?

Aren’t the yellow shoes just fab?!?!?!

If you went to OFFF this year (digital design conference) you might have encountered Julien Vallée there, otherwise I think you should definitely check out his interactive video project Danse Dance. Check out the website for the project and view the video below. LOVE the build-up and the ending!

Go to Julien’s website.

I came across a few lettering pieces by Volumeone and it was love at first sight, is it possible to have a fetisch for ribbon like lettering type? If so, I have that. Just check out Volumeone, also check out the numerous great pieces in this motion sequence, the thumbnails below are stills from there, the motion design on this particular piece might not be all that thrilling but the type treatments are brilliant.

I recently came across a cool little animation by dutch agency KesselsKramer and went straight to  their website to see more. I must say I was completely speechless upon entering their site as I had somehow ended up on a site for western hats. So I checked the link again and this time ended up on a site with lots of beards. That’s when I got it, and it totally cracked me up. I think I can safely say that their website is the worst I have ever seen, but also one of the funniest. What amazes me is the amount of work that has gone into making these horrible sites. I don’t know how they ever get any clients, but at the same time I am TOTALLY lovin’ it! I wonder if anyone smoked a biiiiiit too much Amsterdam weed. Hit refresh a few times and see what you hit. You will be equally amazed by their office in a former church.
